The Sheesh Mahal, also known as the “Palace of Mirrors,” is a fascinating structure located within the Agra Fort in Uttar Pradesh, India. Let’s delve into its captivating history and architectural features:

    • The Sheesh Mahal is situated on the western side of the Musamman Burj, an octagonal tower near the Diwan-i-Khas within the Agra Fort.

    • The name “Sheesh Mahal” translates to “Palace of Mirrors” in Urdu.

    • These fascinating mirrors were specially brought from Haleb (Aleppo, Syria) for this purpose, as recorded by Shah Jahan’s historian, Abdul Hamid Lahauri.

    • The Sheesh Mahal is a work of perfection. Its arches, walls, and ceilings feature exquisite irregular geometric and floral patterns.
    • Inside the palace, there are two large halls of equal size, each measuring 11 meters by 6.5 meters.
    • These halls are connected through a wide arched opening in the center and two narrow passages on the sides.
    • To allow light, doors and a ventilator were installed in the southern wall.
    • Both chambers had marble tanks with fountains and arrangements for hot and cold water. They could also be used as steam baths.
